Since 2017, Amazon has successfully upgraded the skills of 4 million people in India. According to Andrew Sklar, Director of Training and Certification, Asia Pacific and Japan at AWS, this figure is anticipated to increase dramatically over the next few years as AWS maintains its commitment to fostering even deeper scale for students in the nation.

Speaking with BW Businessworld, Sklar expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing efforts and said "AWS programs are intended to drive an even deeper scale for learners in India. So, I would expect that number only to grow exponentially over the coming years."

A NASSCOM assessment on the economic effects of the cloud, published in 2022, predicted that by 2026, cloud computing would contribute 8% of India's GDP and generate 14 million new employment. Sklar did point out that 88% of AWS customers in India found it difficult to find the right digital worker with the necessary qualifications.

AWS proposed inventive methods to close the skills gap after realising this problem. Employers may find eligible candidates with the help of the AWS Skill Builder's gamified learning experiences, which also help learners build skills that are suitable for the workplace. By giving participants in this project the in-demand cloud computing skills they need, the goal is to increase participants' employability from the start.

According to a recent survey by AWS and Gallup, employees in India with sophisticated digital skills, such cloud architecture or software development, add almost USD 507.9 billion to the nation's annual GDP.

The AWS re/Start programme was introduced by AWS in 2021 in order to better assist skill development in India. This 12-week, free, full-time project trains those who are unemployed or underemployed for employment in cloud computing.
