A version of ChatGPT aimed at large organizations will be released by the leader in artificial intelligence, OpenAI, increasing the overlap between what OpenAI and its financial supporter Microsoft offer to customers. According to the company, ChatGPT Enterprise provides additional security, privacy, and faster access to OpenAI's technologies. Block, Carlyle, and Estee Lauder Companies are examples of early clients.

 

OpenAI's consumer-focused ChatGPT, which was published in November, ignited a frenzy of generative AI use in routine jobs like writing and coding, and in January it had amassed 100 million monthly active users. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, many Americans have used ChatGPT to assist with work-related tasks even when their companies forbid it.

 

OpenAI thinks that the release of ChatGPT Enterprise would encourage employers to accept ChatGPT usage at work. Through its Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft already gives businesses access to ChatGPT; but, in order to use it, firms must be users of Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing platform.

 

According to OpenAI, users of ChatGPT Enterprise are not need to sign up for Azure. It is unclear how much competition there is between OpenAI and Microsoft for customers given that the two businesses have previously released duplicate services.

 

Asked whether ChatGPT Enterprise competes with Microsoft over customers, an OpenAI spokesperson said that "customers can choose which platform is right for their business."
