A leading provider of IT infrastructure and services, NTT Ltd., and a global technology pioneer, Cisco, today announced a partnership to create and implement combined solutions that enable businesses to increase operational effectiveness and advance sustainability objectives.

Solutions created by the two companies will provide real-time data insights, improved security, better decision-making, and lower operational costs through predictive maintenance, asset tracking, and supply chain management capabilities by leveraging NTT's Edge as a Service portfolio and Cisco's IoT capabilities.

The firms' solutions will integrate Cisco's IoT capabilities, such as Low Power Wide Area Networking (LoRaWAN), with NTT's Managed Services expertise, automation capabilities at the edge, and administration of complex IT infrastructures.

NTT has expanded its IoT consulting and services business, which now has more than 1000 practitioners and 100 use cases in fields like linked factories, connected automobiles, fleet management, predictive maintenance, smart cities, digital twins, and more. To speed up the combined skills and go-to-market initiatives of the companies, NTT has already educated more than 500 Cisco sales specialists.

“We are accelerating our IoT business initiatives to deliver a powerful portfolio of repeatable services that can be tailored to meet customer demand for these kinds of solutions. We’re in a unique position,” said Devin Yaung, SVP of Group Enterprise IoT Products and Services at NTT.

For sectors like manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare where there is a rising need for edge computing and IoT solutions, NTT and Cisco are developing solutions and go-to-market approaches. The two businesses have already started offering this cutting-edge, "ruggedized" service to a number of clients, notably Compagnie Intercommunale Liégeoise des Eaux (CILE), a Belgian public water distribution firm.
