Google Maps, ONDC, Namma Yatri Partner To offer Mobility Experience

A collaboration between Google Maps, Namma Yatri, and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) would provide users with an end-to-end seamless experience in open mobility, senior executives from the three organizations added.

ONDC—the government-backed open network for online commerce—is, for example, working with Namma Yatri and Google Maps to onboard mobility options such as local trains, autorickshaws, cabs, and metro. ONDC may include long-distance trains and flights in time to come, its managing director and chief executive officer T Koshy said, as per economic times.

“The vision is to create an integrated cart. Any product or service which is catalogueable should be there on the network. One of the areas is mobility,” Koshy added

Miriam Karthika Daniel, vice president of Google Maps Experiences, said, “In India, there are so many different variations in how you can do your commute from one place to another that it has not been easy for us to tie the entire end-to-end journey together. That is where ONDC came in as it is digitising or at least attempting to digitise all different service providers and bring them online.”

According to Daniel, the company has partnered with open network mobility app Namma Yatri to deliver the Kochi Metro schedule, booking, and all other associated services to Google Maps users.

Its long-term ambition, she said, would be quite similar to ONDC's wish list of end-to-end mobility services available on a single network.

ONDC, for its part, welcomes collaborations such as that between Google Maps and Namma Yatri, where Google's engineering power can be used to build novel experiences for consumers via the Namma Yatri app, according to Koshy.
