Japan's industry ministry intends to provide subsidies to companies and research institutions that deploy quantum computers according to sources.

The new subsidy programme would pay for half of the more than 1 billion yen ($7.51 million) cost of operating a shared quantum computer in Kawasaki, Japan, built by International Business Machines Corp. for businesses like Toyota, Sony, and Mizuho Financial Group.

World leader in quantum computing is IBM Quantum. Many believe that this emerging technology will one day resolve important issues that even the most potent traditional supercomputers of today and tomorrow will never be able to.

Despite the enormous societal benefits of quantum computing, there is a drawback: once fully developed, quantum computers will be able to circumvent many of the world's most popular cybersecurity mechanisms.

Due to the possibility of harvest-now-decrypt-later techniques, data that is currently thought to be secure may already be at risk.

Take action right away to start the transition to quantum-safe cryptography. The technologies and support you need for that transformation are available from IBM Quantum Safe.

With its headquarters in Armonk, New York, and operations in more than 175 nations, the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), sometimes known as Big Blue, is an American global technology company. It offers hosting and consulting services in a variety of fields, including mainframe computers and nanotechnology, and is an expert in computer hardware, middleware, and software. With 19 research sites spread over a dozen nations, IBM is the largest industrial research organisation in the world. From 1993 to 2021, IBM held the record for the most annual U.S. patents produced by a firm.
