Jay Burse, Chief Vision OfficerWith a rich history spanning across two decades in the Data Center infrastructure sector, PRASA was set up in 1994 with a vision to consistently lead the way in addressing the comprehensive infrastructure and service requirements for edge computing. Today, PRASA holds extensive experience in designed and built numerous data centers, while its core competency lies in managing high-performance CPU and GPU workloads within compact spaces. It is uniquely positioned to provide the most suitable solutions for Edge Computing applications. Whether through pre-fabricated modular configurations or on-premises edge data centers, PRASA possesses the right expertise and, most importantly, a track record of successfully delivering these solutions to meet customer needs.

We recently engaged in a one-on-one interaction with Jay Burse (Chief Vision Officer), PRASA & Vinay Heda, Director – DC Business, PRASA. Let’s hear more from him about the firm and its success story.

How do you perceive the evolution of the Edge Computing solutions market in India & what are the key factors propelling its growth?
Edge Computing isn't merely a novel technological advancement; it's a product of the emergence of 5G, IoT, AI, ML, Robotics, Autonomous vehicles, CDNs, Live event coverage, Gaming, and all other essential facets of our future needs.

In India, with the rollout of 5G, there is a wealth of opportunities for Edge solutions. The proliferation of 5G applications and the digitization of machines and human activities could lead to an ever-expanding data volume, potentially resulting in a staggering 64-zettabyte gap if we continue on our current trajectory.

To address this capacity gap and enable superior geographical coverage and high-volume data flow, low[1]cost edge centers can filter data close to its source. IoT devices also contribute significantly to the growth of Edge centers. Centralizing IoT data processing would strain bandwidth and result in unacceptably high latency, making Edge computing an attractive option. Moreover, Edge computing offers the potential for heightened reliability and security, particularly when integrated with private communication networks.

Another growth catalyst is the surge in video streaming demands. Decentralized, cost-effective edge data centers are adept at delivering the performance that both consumers and business users demand while circumventing latency issues.

"PRASA, a renowned Edge Data Center innovator, has a 29- year legacy in Data Center Infrastructure"

What are the primary challenges that clients in this sector encounter & how do you address them?
Whether it is a manufacturing facility or an oil exploration rigs, to OTT media giants like Netflix and Amazon, or fintech companies such as Phonepe and Bharatpe, almost all are on the brink of enhancing their customer experiences. To achieve this goal, they require computing resources situated as close to the data generation point as possible.

Another significant issue clients grapple with is the cost of energy, as data centers consume vast amounts of power in a limited physical space.

PRASA's extensive experience and proficiency in managing Data Center cooling through cutting-edge technologies assist customers in optimizing their power consumption patterns, consequently reducing their carbon footprint.

While many enterprises consider adopting renewable energy sources to mitigate their carbon footprint, PRASA focuses on reducing the overall power consumption, thereby lessening the dependency on renewable resources.

We have made substantial investments in the realm of Edge Data Center manufacturing and implementation.

PRASA not only boasts top-tier talent in the Data Center field but also excels in delivering comprehensive solutions to our clients.

Provide an insight into how Prasa's Edge Center solutions complement traditional data center deployments in today's era. Additionally, could you elaborate on the features and advantages of your Edge Center solutions that contribute to a company's growth?
We are not certain if it's accurate to classify Edge Data Center solutions as direct substitutes for traditional data centers. Both hold their unique value and serve distinct purposes. PRASA is actively engaged in both realms, encompassing the conventional design-build data center business as well as Edge Data Center deployments. The critical factor lies in comprehending the specific computing requirements and the urgency to go live, as this determines whether a traditional solution is suitable or if an Edge prefabricated solution offers a more practical choice.

Guide us through the entire process of how you engage with your clients, starting from grasping their specific needs to delivering the ultimate solutions.
PRASA offers comprehensive data center solutions, and the engagement begins at the design stage in collaboration with the customer. The initial step involves a thorough understanding of the customer's requirements, achieved through detailed discussions, site assessments, and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) mapping. This process ensures that we can provide a top-notch solution tailored to meet the customer's specific needs.

Subsequently, based on the customer's input, the PRASA team, which includes in-house CDCP (Certified Data Center Professional) certified professionals, proceeds to create a design and feasibility report. The second step involves presenting this report to the client and aligning it with their expectations and requirements.
