Uber has chosen Google to enable the modernisation of its data cloud infrastructure and reinvent the user, driver, and merchant experience. Google and Uber today announced an expanded cooperation.

Google and Uber, both forerunners in their respective fields, are committed to giving their customers cutting-edge technology and user experiences. Uber will move some of its most important infrastructure to Google Cloud as part of the partnership, and it will be able to utilise additional Google services like Ads and Google Maps Platform to modernise its architecture and speed up application development, as well as Cloud Spanner for quick scalability. In order to produce new ideas, the companies also intend to intensify their engineering collaboration.

"Our partnership with Google centers around a shared commitment to putting customer experience at the forefront of everything we do," said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. "It is our job to continually improve and reimagine the types of experiences we're providing through the Uber platform, exceeding expectations every time someone opens the app to go somewhere or get something delivered. We're excited to deepen our work with Google to deliver new innovations that push the boundaries of what's possible for transportation, delivery and more."

"Cloud migration is often seen as a way of achieving the scale, performance, and security necessary to enable a digital business to thrive," said Matt Eastwood, SVP, WW Research, IDC. "What is particularly interesting with this partnership is the depth of the co-innovation spanning Google businesses and technologies which are being leveraged in order to deliver the technology innovation and customer experience improvements to further differentiate Uber in the marketplace."

Uber will transfer some of its applications and data from on-premise data centres to Google Cloud in collaboration with Google. Uber may benefit from Google Cloud's cutting-edge cloud services, including data cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, security, and microservices, through the transfer while also updating its infrastructure. With the aim of guaranteeing that its customer experience is quick, secure, and effective around the world, this shift gives Uber a foundation with enhanced flexibility and scalability and is secure-by-design.

Together, Google and Uber will develop new technologies and commercial ventures that will revolutionise delivery, advertising, and mobility. Uber will make full use of Google Ads and Google Cloud technologies in this endeavour to develop fresh and interesting experiences for users, earners, and partners.

Delivering outstanding client experiences is a top priority for Google and Uber, and the two companies will continue to work together on new projects. To help Uber in its efforts to lower its cost per trip, expedite the development of new revenue streams, and enhance internal analytics and customer experiences, Google will make technical investments across Cloud, Google Ads, and the Google Maps Platform. Additionally, Google and Uber intend to keep cooperating on new innovation projects for the Play and Android platforms, such as enhancing the performance of the Uber app.

"We look forward to expanding our collaboration with Uber to deploy our cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and edge networking solutions," said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet. "This partnership is bringing together the best of Google technology across Cloud, Maps, Ads and more to help Uber continue to improve the customer experience for their users."
