
IIT-Delhi: Launching Artificial Intelligence course from January 2021

IIT-Delhi has announced its first campus for Artificial Intelligence learning. This school is expected to start its PhD programme in the starting of next year (2021).
THe institute in its news statement said, “ Already a leader in the country and in Asia for research and educational activity in artificial intelligence. The school aims to cement IIT-D;s leadership position in India and constructively improve the global standing. It will begin its PhD programme from the next admission cycle in January 2021. While, PG level degree courses are also being planned.”
IIT-D director V Ramgopal said that, “the future progress of a nation will depend on its capability. Therefore, many countries have started investing heavily in artificial intelligence. India is also responding to this Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the importance of AI in his policies. Besides, India is ranked fifth in the list of countries with most number of AI-related jobs.”
A programme in AI is needed as current degrees are broad-based and do not make it easy for students to learn the depths of different sub-fields within AI, Rao added.
