Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation stated on January 3 that they had inked a Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car service collaboration agreement with Samsung Electronics, with the goal of improving connectivity between residential and mobility environments.

Under this agreement, Hyundai and Kia customers will be able to remotely control digital appliances via touch and voice commands through their cars' in-car infotainment systems. Conversely, they will have remote vehicle control via AI speakers, TVs and smartphone apps to control various vehicle functions, as per Hyundai Motor.

This is made possible by the organic integration of Hyundai and Kia's connected automotive services and Samsung's Internet of Things (IoT) platform, 'SmartThings'. Customers are expected to use it in a variety of ways in their daily lives while enjoying seamless connectivity.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a global South Korean appliance and consumer electronics firm headquartered in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, South Korea. It is now the crown jewel of the Samsung chaebol, accounting for 70% of the group's income in 2012. However, Lee Jae-yong has indicated his goal to ensure that his children do not gain major roles at Samsung Electronics, which would dramatically alter the company's inner workings.

Based in Seoul, the Hyundai Motor Group is a South Korean chaebol, or multinational conglomerate similar to an org chart but without a central holding company or ownership structure.
