Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed that the government would establish Data Embassies throughout the nation to help other countries have seamless digital transfers and continuity.
By utilising diplomatic agreements supported by cloud technology solutions, data embassies develop a novel method of data security.
A data embassy is a strategy used by nation governments to guarantee a nation's digital continuity, particularly with regard to vital datasets.
"We will facilitate the setting up of Data Embassies for countries looking for digital continuity solutions," Sitharaman said during her Union Budget speech in Parliament.
The idea of "digital embassies" is becoming increasingly popular among small nations because they require independent infrastructure that is resilient to disruption.
A data embassy was authorised in 2015 by Estonia, one of the world's most advanced nations in terms of digital management. The Data Embassy approach has been adopted by a few additional nations, including Luxembourg and Monaco.
An article on the Google Cloud blog describes the many parts that make up a data embassy.
"A data embassy must have a secure, resilient data infrastructure that can protect a nation's data from cyber and physical threats. They should have a robust mechanism to ensure efficient data back-up and fail-over, as well," it said.
