Every student is not just unique but also equally gifted. All of them have different abilities, values, concerns as well as goals for their time at educational institutions. Conversely, only a particular percentage of students in a school meet the required learning standards, while others are not able to perform at the qualifying level.

Learning inequalities occur owing to the educational environment in which students are present instead of the differences in their ability to learn. Students are confined to their seats for the duration of a long, monotonous lecture in a teacher-led class & this situation is created by conventional educational systems.

In recent decades, the Indian education system has witnessed a drastic transformation. Technology is becoming highly prevalent in schools and colleges & paving the way for an updated educational system. The stage is set for innovation for re-imagining the future of learning, already. Some of the top trends in the Edtech sector includes the following:

Adaptive learning

Although the attempts that were made earlier at adaptive learning worked only for particular content & curricula. However, with recent Artificial Intelligence advances in language models as well as video understanding, adaptive learning technology can be applied to almost all types of class assignments at an unprecedented scale at present. While the adaptive learning concept has been around for several years, it is a special type of learning. Here the students are offered customized resources as well as activities to address their unique learning requirements. One can also notice the concept of adaptive learning play out in gaming. Now what is new is applying the recent AI advances to this concept, which opens up a whole new set of possibilities in transforming the future of education system into a personal learning experience.

Gamification

Gaming is very popular today and gamification is becoming increasingly used in educational settings for several reasons. In short, it makes the difficult things more fun, and helps in motivating students & makes them more engaged with the subject matter. In addition to this, they also learn best when they have aims, targets & achievements to reach for, in a way the learner still perceives as fun.

Owing to the addictive features of video games which intrigue children, it is only natural that we find similar engagement results when these game-based elements are applied to learning materials. Gamification in learning comprises leveraging game-based elements like point scoring, peer competition, team work, score tables for driving engagement, facilitate students to assimilate new information & test their knowledge.

AR/VR

The education industry at present is undergoing a significant transformation & virtual reality/augmented reality are 2 major technologies that are driving this change. This engages the students with compelling techniques, which has resulted in successful learning.

Apart from this, it has been shown to improve learning retention, optimize the learning process, grow opportunities for experimentation, decrease reliance on memorization, empower teachers & students, as well as promote active learning. Students benefit from virtual tools in a controlled setting which helps them in understanding complex ideas.

Furthermore, AR/VR technologies are seen as the future of education, although they are yet to be adopted in the country.

Phygital Learning

Physical & digital learning are combined to offer phygital learning & this is one of the new strategies which is transforming the way of education at present. While the offline style of education has been the norm for a long time, for delivering highly effective & personalized education, the edtech sector been forced to look for a newer direction or alternative where conventional & digital approaches can be combined. Complex concepts are now being taught by using animated audio-visuals, that help in better retention & understanding. This interactive teaching approach has made it easier for the teachers as well as the education institutions’ administration to monitor the progress of every student. And, as a result this would help in improving the academic performance of the students.

The road ahead

Effective innovations of this scale are required in the education system to helping produce significant, high-quality learning outcomes across the system. Also, learning is made practical & efficient via a continuous cycle of revisions as well as feedback while rendering the required quality. With the onset of digitization & the aforementioned trends, it is predicted that the Edtech sector will expand & transform over the coming decade. Lastly, it is safe to state that these trends will influence the future of the modern classroom as educational institutions would adopt & implement digital methods as well as avenues to deliver high-quality education.
