Genesis: India's First Indigenous Meter Data Management Solution Provider

CIO Vendor With the abolition of gas subsidies and the accessibility of piped gas to families 24/7 and the high availability of CNG for transportation vehicles, the Natural Gas Distribution industry is poised to prosper. As a result, prominent firms are eager to capitalize on the PNGRB's expansion opportunities for the Indian industry. And when it comes to prospective clients, all of them (mostly CGDs) are seeking product manufacturers, contractors, and service providers across a wide range of service offerings to assist them in providing and billing for the gas they sell to customers. Almost all CGDs are searching for partners who are prepared to go above and beyond to secure the financial success of their endeavour while also contributing to the green economy.

As one of the early entries into natural gas metering, Genesis eventually built India's first entirely indigenous Meter Data Manager (MDM) as well as its own proprietary ‘Head End system (HES)’ which assures data collecting from a number of sources in various formats. With the introduction of Genesis' own Meter Interface Unit for unattended meterreading, the firm has become one of the world's very few to own the whole spectrum of hardware and software for the gas meter industry. Genesis has also designed a portable gas leak dictator which is battery-powered, and uses network-based alerts to notify a distant team of gas leaking.

“Since our early days in the market, we have recognised that this low margin, extremely sensitive residential gas meter sector needed to be transitioned to smart metering in order to assure long-term revenue flows that contribute to the profitability of gas distribution firms. Since day one of our first project, the whole business in all areas has been cash positive and progressed in cash flow. This is a case study in which an investment in technology enables the erasure of bad debt, collection call charges, and, finally, company loss,” says Anshumali Bhushan, Co-Founder & Director at Genesis.

“We are one of the leaders in this market and currently sustainable. Our vision is to create an intelligent, indigenous, innovative and cost-effective product
ecosystem, which can ensure the adoption of high technology metering practice leading to cash flow sustainability for the City Gas Distribution Companies. We are now trying to create parallelrevenue streams for other aspects of this business and trying to increase our presence and contribution to the sector,” he adds.

Genesis began by importing Chinese Steel Case Gas meters. However, after only three years, the firm is on the verge of developing its own gas meters that are entirely built in India and have all international safety certifications. This will be a significant development which will be in line with 'Atmanirbhar Bharat.'

It also guarantees that merchandise is available quickly without having to deal with global supply chain concerns. Genesis is supported by a team of seasoned professionals as well as a very strong R&D team in both software and hardware. The company works on its own hardware, middleware, networking units and cloud which makes it a unique entity in the industry.

It has been always working towards expanding its footprint across the country and abroad. Very recently, Genesis signed an MOU for marketing SICK Ultrasonic Meter FlowSic500. Genesis is planning to use its technological strengths to integrate its MDM with this product and market in India. CGD Industry shall be benefiting from a reduction in revenue leakage due to inefficiencies in measurement by mechanical meters by upgrading to Ultrasonic technology.

Going forward, Genesis is set to develop products to work in the Green Hydrogen field and on sustainable water projects, for which it has signed an MoU with M/s Dornier GmBH, which has previously completed many such projects in Germany and other countries across the world. “Our focus is being in the sustainable energy business and creating value for our team members, investors and value for customers,” concludes Anshumali.
