Ansys, a global pioneer and developer in engineering simulation software, announced that it has reached a binding agreement to purchase Diakopto. Diakopto, a provider of specialised EDA solutions to expedite integrated circuit (IC) development, focuses on assisting in the resolution of important challenges caused by layout parasitics.

The acquisition, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close in the second quarter of 2023. It will have no meaningful impact on Ansys' consolidated financial statements in 2023.

Diakopto creates products that solve the increasing challenges and unforeseen consequences of building integrated circuits in the modern era. Semiconductor designs are progressively utilising advanced process node technologies, where interconnect parasitic effects limit design performance, reliability, and functionality.

With the purchase, Ansys will be able to better enable design engineers to "shift left," detecting interconnect parasitic concerns earlier in the design cycle. Diakopto's products give actionable insights to aid designers in resolving these issues, which was previously unavailable. Engineers can save costly revisions late in the design cycle by identifying and analysing parasitic problems early on, saving both money and time.

"Diakopto's culture of strong engineering excellence and its innovative and highly differentiated products create a natural alignment with our organization. We are eager to welcome their team to the Ansys family," said Shane Emswiler, senior vice president of products at Ansys. "Incorporating Diakopto's unique methodology will support designers using Ansys to quickly and easily pinpoint the few elements, out of billions, causing bottlenecks. Designers can then optimize and debug designs more efficiently for enhanced IC performance and reliability, and accelerate time to market. The acquisition will complement Ansys' existing offerings for engineers at every level as Diakopto's intuitive and out-of-the-box experience doesn't require extensive training or complicated setups or configurations."
