The first 5G-driven, artificial intelligence (AI)-guided colonoscopy experiments in India were reportedly carried out by Bharti Airtel and Apollo Hospitals in association with HealthNet Global, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Avesha.

"The trial was conducted using AI on Airtel's 5G technology with ultra-low latency and high processing capabilities that resulted in the detection of colon cancer much faster and with greater accuracy," Bharti Airtel “

According to current technique, colon cancer is found by a laborious, exacting, and time-consuming colonoscopy operation that takes 30 to 40 minutes every case.

As per Bharti Airtel, the AI-guided colonoscopy procedure aided in real-time image processing. According to the telecom provider, this technology gives doctors a "extra pair of eyes" and increases the detection rate of polyps, which can significantly enhance patient care and save lives..

Avesha edge inferencing programmes analysed the data in real-time on AWS infrastructure, ensuring analysis closer to the endpoints. By appropriately recording data and minimising errors, the AI-assisted Colonoscopy Polyp Detection study will assist clinicians in providing better patient care and increasing the accuracy of detection rates.

The telco said 5G, edge computing and AI can significantly improve patient outcomes by assisting in proper and timely diagnoses.
