Spotify has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud, employing large language models (LLMs) to improve user identification across podcasts and audiobooks. This program seeks to give individualized suggestions based on user choices.

Artificial intelligence-driven large language models (LLMs), including OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google Bard, undergo extensive training on vast datasets to produce text and various types of content. Alphabet-owned Google Cloud features several LLMs, such as PaLM 2, Codey, Imagen, and Chirp, trained on diverse data sets encompassing text, code, images, audio, and video, as per livemint.

Spotify was an early adopter of AI, using it to construct music recommendation systems over a decade ago. The Swedish corporation is now extending the usage of Large Language Models (LLMs) to its non-music content, such as podcasts and audiobooks.

The music streaming service has attempted to increase its profitability by diversifying its revenue-generating genres, which now include podcasts and audiobooks. It has previously vowed to generate high-margin returns on its significant investment in podcasts and audiobooks.

"The evolution of our technology has been matched by Google Cloud's commitment to building the best possible platform for our products to run on and driving further innovation with the emerging capabilities of generative AI," said Gustav Söderström, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Spotify.

Spotify is investigating the use of LLMs to improve user safety during listening sessions and detect potentially hazardous content as part of an ongoing cooperation with Google.

Spotify just launched a new auto-generated transcripts function to podcasts, allowing listeners to read along while listening to the programs. The new transcripts option will be available for millions of podcast episodes in the coming weeks, according to the business.
