Swedish telecom equipment giant Ericsson has partnered with Google Cloud to introduce "Ericsson On-Demand," a groundbreaking 5G Core-as-a-Service solution delivered as a fully-managed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform. This collaboration aims to transform the telecom industry by offering telecom carriers enhanced agility, cost efficiency, and access to new revenue streams through AI-driven technology.
Ericsson's On-Demand platform, running on the AI-powered infrastructure of Google Cloud, allows Communication Service Providers (CSPs) to launch 5G core networks quickly and easily without managing complex infrastructure. “With Ericsson On-Demand on Google Cloud's AI infrastructure, CSPs can rapidly deploy 5G core and tap into new revenue streams. This partnership with Ericsson isn't just about technology; it's about building the AI-driven telecom of tomorrow for our customers,” said Muninder Singh Sambi, Vice President and General Manager of network security at Google Cloud.
This SaaS model provides telecom operators with the flexibility to innovate and respond to market changes swiftly. “It gives them the agility to outpace market change, the confidence to innovate without compromise, and the clarity to seize opportunities that were previously just out of reach,” said Eric Parsons, Vice President, Head of Cloud Software and Services at Ericsson.
The platform can enable the CSPs to provide high-performance 5G services by utilizing the powerful AI features of Google Cloud to perform sophisticated network automation and optimization. The solution will help to minimize operational expenses and stimulate the emergence of new business models, including improved enterprise services and IoT applications.
