Vodafone Idea, a leading telecom operator in India, has introduced its 5G services in Bengaluru as part of its ambitious plan to roll out 5G across all 17 priority telecom circles by August. The company has partnered with Samsung Electronics to enhance its network infrastructure, building on successful 5G technology trials in cities like Chandigarh and Patna.

This partnership, which was commenced in the year 2024, aims at enhancing the current 2G and 4G network of Vodafone Idea by integrating improved 5G network services in select areas such as Bihar, Karnataka, and Punjab. Samsung is pushing connectivity and performance improvements with cutting-edge solutions like virtualized network elements and energy-saving radios.

The deployment features 32T32R Massive MIMO units, enabling support for multiple spectrum bands to ensure efficient 5G performance. It also has virtualized baseband elements, such as the first Virtualized Base Station Controller (VBSC) in India and a virtualized Central Unit (vCU), which can be upgraded in a software-defined manner. This approach enhances operational flexibility while maintaining support for essential 2G services, particularly in rural areas.
