While freshwater resources dwindle and urban demands surge, these startups play critical roles in the development of scalable, sustainable solutions for the entire spectrum of purification, distribution, leakage detection to treatment of wastewater. It is not only out of necessity but increasingly recognition of common interests of the public and the private. An enabling environment has been created by government programs on smart cities and clean water initiatives for young enterprises to meaningfully add to the sector. This is further supported by increased environmental awareness and change in consumer behavior on the use of water conservation technologies. IoT based monitoring systems, AI powered analytics for the water usage patterns, and decentralized purification units are being used by startups. On top of that they are not just helping us be more efficient with water but are also helping us make data driven decisions decisions on household and municipal level. Innovative solutions covered by companies also include atmospheric water generation, aquifer recharge systems, and waterless sanitation technologies reflecting broadening of the innovation landscape. Also, there is traction in the B2B segment, as industrial users are looking for solutions to reusing water, compliance and sustainability. Pathways for implementation at scale are being created through collaborations with utility providers, housing developers and municipalities. Despite ongoing funding and infrastructural issues, in the most part involving reaching out to areas farthest from the city (rural, remote), founders in this space keep the progress going with their passion and brilliance. In this special issue, CIOTechOutlook brings to you the stories of companies that have made their mark in this domain with their technology acumen and industry expertise. These companies have kept abreast of the new technological advancements in this sector and have leveraged them to their full potential. We hope this issue gives you helpful insights into this market landscape. Sudhakar SinghManaging Editorsudhakar@ciotechoutlook.com
