Bharti Airtel said it has displayed a 5G connected ambulance with Apollo Hospital and technology partner, Cisco, for emergency situations.

The demonstration was conducted in Bengaluru using the 5G trial spectrum allotted to Airtel by the government, as per a media release on Thursday.

The custom-designed 5G connected ambulance is equipped with the latest medical equipment, patient monitoring applications, and telemetry devices that transmit the patient health data to the hospital in real-time. In addition, it is also equipped with onboard cameras, camera-based headgear, and bodycams for paramedic staff – all connected to the ultra-fast & low latency Airtel 5G network. It will be further enabled with technologies like AR/VR.

“Healthcare is one of the most promising use cases for 5G, and we are delighted to deepen our partnerships with Apollo Hospitals and Cisco to bring some innovative use cases for the Indian market,” said Ajay Chitkara, Director & CEO, Airtel Business, Bharti Airtel.

Airtel in November 2021 said it is patnering with global consulting and technology companies such as Accenture, Amazon Web Service (AWS), Cisco, Ericsson, Google Cloud, Nokia, Tata Consultancy (TCS) to demonstrate enterprise-grade use cases using high-speed, low-latency 5G networks.

Airtel had mentioned it is working with brands such as Apollo Hospitals, Flipkart, and other manufacturing companies to test 5G-based solutions.

Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group, said insights from various studies on the relationship between distance to the hospital and mortality of patients helped propel collaboration with Airtel on the 5G connected ambulance project.

Early this year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended a massive quantum of 1,04,000 MHz of spectrum to be put to sale with a variety of bands for the commercial launch of the next-generation network in the country later this year.
