Datadog, the essential monitoring service for modern cloud environments, today announced the general availability of Datadog APM. This new expansion of the company’s existing infrastructure monitoring platform will enable development and operations (DevOps) teams to quickly troubleshoot issues in highly distributed, service-oriented applications that use microservices, containers, and run across hybrid cloud environments.

“We believe that application and infrastructure monitoring should be seamlessly integrated in hybrid cloud environments where code and infrastructure changes happen often and simultaneously,” said Amit Agarwal, Chief Product Officer at Datadog. “With the new Datadog APM extension, enterprises will now be able to monitor every part of their service-oriented applications from infrastructure to code, finding the root cause of issues much faster.”

“The pace of scale and dynamism of the infrastructure and application environment are accelerating, with the advent of containers, microservices, autoscaling and software-defined ‘everything’ stressing the capabilities of existing APM tools,” wrote Cameron Haight, Vice President with Gartner’s IT Systems, Security and Risk research group in a March 2016 report (1). In a June 2016 report (2) Haight notes that, “many, if not most, commercial APM tools do not have the ability to collect hundreds of data points on potentially thousands of microservices at high rates of frequency in order to ‘paint a picture’ of the environment in total.”

Datadog APM supports performance optimization and outage diagnosis to reduce the impact of costly downtime for large-scale environments. Highlights include:

Highlights

·         Quick installation via a hosted SaaS solution that takes minutes to configure

·         Automatic tracing of individual requests from end to end across hosts and services

·         Flame graphs for quickly and accurately identifying the most frequently used code paths

·         Easily customizable dashboards for data aggregation and correlation

·         Built-in collaboration between dev and ops teams

·         Smart alerting via email, SMS, and cloud-based collaboration tools

·         Anomaly detection based on machine learning

·         Transparent tag-based aggregation of performance data from microservices, containers, and other ephemeral hosts

“Having a single platform to monitor both our dynamic infrastructure and the code-level performance of our applications will give us a much richer context for making decisions,” said Valentino Volonghi, Chief Technology Officer at AdRoll. “As a Datadog customer, we’re excited to see the company move fast and provide solutions for modern architectures and workflows.”

Yony Feng, Chief Technology Officer at Peloton, said “Being able to monitor infrastructure and applications within the same platform will reduce unnecessary overhead, facilitate collaboration across teams, and lead to quicker resolutions. The Datadog platform continues to offer solutions that increase visibility and agile development."
