Technology has made a firm hold over our lives. In today’s world, we cannot imagine living a normal life without using gadgets and apps. The workspace is no different, and there are tons of apps or digital tools out there that make our work a lot easier.

While these digital tools and gadgets are very handy that make our work more efficient and faster, the real question over here is – Do Digital tools makes us more productive? Or, does it degrade our skills slowly and unknowingly?

Too Many Digital Tools Can Hamper Productivity

With millions of apps available today, it is easy for us to find ourselves spoilt for choices as to which digital tool to pick to accomplish the given task at hand. However, one must be careful as over-reliance on specific digital tools may downgrade our previous productivity, creativity, or efficiency levels.

On an average basis, an employee in the IT sector needs to work across 4-5 digital tools.

Digital Tools Makes Communication Easy

One of the most significant advantages of using digital tools is that it helps employees communicate with each other, regardless of where they are. Digital tools that allow people to communicate have been incredibly handy during the Covid-19 crisis. There are many digital apps out there that help people communicate across the globe. All one would require is a decent internet connection to get access to such tools.

Video calling apps such as Zoom, Skype, Facetime, Google Hangouts, to name a few, have come in as saviors during the Pandemic times. They have made organizations across certain sectors to continue with their operations and made it possible for global corporates to host Webinars, Conferences, struck vital deals, and whatnot.

Frees Up Our Mind to be More Creative & Productive

Most importantly, Digital applications such as online proofreaders, content enhancers, plagiarism checkers help employees to cover up mundane and repetitive tasks in a very short span of time, which would otherwise take hours to complete it manually. Tools such as Grammarly, ProofHub, and nTasks are very useful for employees associated with the publication industry, especially in work related to academic publication. Such digital tools enable the workers to focus more on the prime tasks at hand, work more creatively and productively, as well.

The Bottom Line

According to a global study conducted by HP Enterprise, “Employees who work in digital workplaces are not only more productive but also more motivated, have higher job satisfaction, and report an overall better sense of well-being.”

Even though innovative digital tools help us a lot in accomplishing the tasks, it also has the potential to decrease our productivity levels. Moreover, the usability of a digital tool also depends on the type of user and the nature of work that needs to be done.
