The acquisition of L&T's Smart World & Communication (SWC) Business by L&T Technology Services Limited, a market-leading pure-play engineering services provider, will allow LTTS to combine synergies and expand its offerings in Next-Gen Communications, Sustainable Spaces, and Cybersecurity.

Of order to meet the needs in smart cities, address opportunities, and offer smart solutions in the fields of end-to-end communications, city surveillance, and intelligent traffic management system for the Government as well as corporations, Smart World & Communication was established in 2016. It employs approximately 700 engineers from a variety of technological fields, and its yearly income has surpassed Rs 1,000 Crores.

The combination of the LTTS and SWC teams will successfully serve the portfolios spanning Next-Gen Communications, Sustainable Spaces, and Cybersecurity by addressing the full range of digital solutions, including design, architect, construct & operate.

The design, planning, deployment, and management of the network, including the Network Operations Center (NOC), OSS, Datacenter, Cloud/Private 5G of more than 25,000 locations throughout India, have all benefited from SWC's significant competence in Next-Generation Communications. It has helped numerous Indian state governments set up end-to-end network connection initiatives including TANFINET and Telangana Fiber Grid, as well as network operational centres and network management tools. With a lot of innovation, SWC built the gEDGE data centres, which have up to a 40% decrease in power usage and a 30% reduction in capex.

In the field of international communications, LTTS was a pioneer, identifying 5G as a Big Bet in 2020. The company now fully owns 10+ Labs-as-a-Service for customers, 5G network assurance with over 100 use cases for clients, and more than 100 product families built for OEMs internationally thanks to LTTS' 5G capabilities and services.

By 2030, 5G is anticipated to have a USD 1.3 trillion global economic impact, and LTTS and SWC think that by working together, they are in a stronger position to win and carry out significant transformational programmes in India and around the globe.

Along with the L&T Fusion Platform and Integrated Command and Control Center, SWC delivers capabilities for public safety, smart cities, critical infrastructure, and smart metering to Sustainable Spaces (IC3). In Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Nagpur, the implementation of large-scale public safety projects was finished, and tens of thousands of devices, including cameras and network equipment, were distributed for city-level projects. The Prayagraj Smart City programme, an AI-based crowd-management effort that has successfully managed over 250 million people, is another illustrative example of success. Six million smart metres have been installed by SWC in places including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi.

Through its i-BEMS platform, which has been installed in Israel's "world's smartest office campus" with over 14,000 sensors, LTTS offers smart building and experience management capabilities. Together, LTTS and SWC will reach a bigger market for sustainable spaces, worth USD 390 billion worldwide.

With products in risk assessment, threat monitoring, security architecture, design, and DevSecOps, SWC delivers Full Lifecycle Threat Management skills to the field of cybersecurity.

To its OT and product clients around the world, LTTS has been providing cybersecurity services.

In order to meet the expectations of the anticipated USD 376 billion cybersecurity industry, the collaborative team of LTTS and SWC would offer Security Operating Centers (SOC), full lifecycle threat management, OT cybersecurity, and product security credentials.

Commenting on the occasion, S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Larsen & Toubro Limited remarked: "Smart World & Communication has created a niche for itself in the communications and smart spaces domain across developing markets. Amit Chadha, CEO & Managing Director, L&T Technology Services said "The acquisition of SWC is a progression of LTTS' 6 Big Bets strategy with a direct bearing on 5G, Digital Products & AI, and Sustainability. SWC's capabilities will enhance LTTS' differentiation in the exciting field of next-gen communications with cutting edge solutions around 5G networks, sustainable spaces, along with a full stack of cybersecurity solutions to our global clientele.
