  • Nelco partners with Eutelsat for OneWeb LEO connectivity in India across key sectors.
  • Agreement boosts secure, low-latency services for government, enterprises, and underserved areas.
  • Supports India's digital growth; space economy eyed at $44B by 2033 with $1B satcom revenue.

The Tata group's satellite communications arm, Nelco, has entered into a strategic agreement with French firm Eutelsat to introduce One Web’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) services throughout India. This collaboration aims to enhance connectivity solutions for diverse sectors, bolstering the nation's digital framework.

As part of the deal, Nelco will collaborate with OneWeb India Communications, Eutelsat's local entity, to provide secure, low-latency LEO connectivity. This will cater to customers in terrestrial, maritime, and aviation domains, including government and enterprise users.

The partnership emphasizes delivering reliable services in remote and underserved regions, thereby supporting India's digital infrastructure and national security needs, according to a joint statement from the companies.

Nelco has stated that it is willing to implement such services to its customers as soon as LEO-based services of One Web are commercially launched in India. The project is fitted with higher level objectives of developing fast, secure messaging in key sectors.

“We are pleased to partner with Eutelsat to bring OneWeb LEO satellite connectivity services to India. This partnership marks a significant step in enabling reliable, secure, and high-speed communication solutions based on LEO services for critical sectors across land, sea, and air,” said PJ Nath, MD & CEO of Nelco.

Nath further noted that the agreement supports Nelco’s vision of offering multi-orbit satellite connectivity to propel India's digital ecosystem and meet strategic communication demands.

On Eutelsat's side, Neha Idnani, Regional Vice President for APAC & Director of OneWeb India, highlighted the partnership's importance. “We are proud to partner with Nelco to deliver advanced LEO connectivity services in India. This agreement strengthens our strategic footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic and fast-growing connectivity markets and underscores our commitment to supporting India’s digital and security ambitions,” she said.

This development comes amid growing competition in India's satcom landscape. Earlier this year, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, part of the Bharti Group, a major shareholder in Eutelsat OneWeb, forged marketing alliances with Elon Musk's Starlink.
