OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, stated that India has the potential to become OpenAI's biggest market, already experiencing big user growth on the platform and already integrating AI into their everyday lives and businesses.
In 2024, Altman highlighted that Indian users have tripled their usage of the platform, emphasizing their importance as OpenAI's second-largest market. The launch will also support OpenAI's overall intersecting commitment to deliver products focused on India, as well as to provide local partnerships to aid in AI adoption in a more impactful way.
Earlier this year, OpenAI announced local data storage for its ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and API platforms to meet India's data sovereignty requirements. This allows companies to take advantage of AI while being compliant with regulations and encouraging innovation. ChatGPT Go is in keeping with OpenAI's strategy to respond to India's growing need for AI tools and empower both users and businesses.
