Oppo, and Transsion Group brand, Infinix said they have collaborated with Reliance Jio to conduct 5G tests for their respective 5G smartphones.

Oppo and Jio conducted a 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) trial on Reno7 series smartphones in a demonstration environment using the trial mid-band spectrum allotted to the telco by the government. The companies achieved lag-free 4K video streams, super-fast uploads and downloads, the smartphone brand said in its statement.

According to a separate statement, Infinix and Jio said they achieved “stellar download speeds” on the brand’s upcoming 5G smartphone, Infinix Zero 5G, during the trials. As a part of the virtual lab trial, the device was thoroughly tested through various scenarios to verify its capability and performance for delivering enhanced 5G end-user experiences.

The Reno7 series, comprising the Reno7 Pro and Reno7, supports upto 13 5G bands.

Jio says to have developed a complete homegrown 5G stack that is cloud-native and digitally managed.

“We are all set to have users experience the full range of 5G- capable devices and build an end-to-end 5G ecosystem. Technology such as 5G is altering how the world communicates today and tests like these will further consolidate our efforts in the industry & provide the best value proposition for our customers,” said Tasleem Arif, Vice President, India R&D Head, Oppo India.

Anish Kapoor, CEO – Infinix India, in turn, said, “Zero 5G will be our first 5G smartphone to be launched globally after successfully launching multiple 4G smartphones… With the Zero 5G, we aim to offer higher performance in terms of faster download speed and faster gaming experience.”

Pricing details of Infinix Zero 5G, however, have not yet been released for the India market.

As per media reports, Jio is gearing up to launch its own affordable 5G smartphone, dubbed as the JioPhone 5G, at Rs 10,000 in India. An announcement regarding the launch and other details is expected at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)’s annual general meeting (AGM) in June.
