'Airtel Xstream AirFiber,' India's first fixed wireless access (FWA) enabling 5G for customers in Delhi and Mumbai, will be launched, according to Bharti Airtel, a telecom behemoth, the company said in its exchange filing. According to the company, all Xstream AirFiber devices would be produced in India as part of the "Make in India" initiative.

The latest offering from Airtel will be the country's first 5G wireless Wi-Fi system, providing internet access to users in fiber-deficient areas. The business wants to solve the last-mile connectivity problem that exists in both rural and urban areas of India where getting access to fiber infrastructure is difficult. Only 34 million Indian houses are currently connected to fiber-to-the-home internet services, and many customers struggle to get fiber connectivity.

As per the company, plans for the AirFiber service will start at Rs 799 and offer speeds of up to 100Mbps. With a one-time refundable security deposit of Rs. 2500, the plan is available for a period of six months. Customers in Delhi and Mumbai who are interested in using this service can go to certain Airtel locations or check the business' website for further information.

“Today, we are delighted to launch Xstream AirFiber for consumers in Delhi and Mumbai with a pan-India rollout planned soon,” Commenting on the initiative, Shashwat Sharma, Director – Consumer Business Bharti Airtel, said.

Bharti Airtel just released its Q1 FY24 earnings. In the most recent quarter, Airtel's combined revenue increased 14.1% year over year to Rs 37,440 crore, while its combined profits before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) increased 18.9%. Due to the extraordinary loss that the Africa company reported as a result of the devaluation of the Nigerian Naira, the overall profit for the quarter was flat on a year ago.
