Fingerprints Inks Agreement with Tier 1 Automotive Supplier To Develop Iris Recognition Technology

To further enhance its iris recognition technology and enable seamless integration into Driver Monitoring Systems, Fingerprints recently revealed that the business has secured an agreement with a tier 1 automotive supplier. The agreement's scope includes integrating Fingerprints' iris authentication software into an existing DMS and marketing it to automakers as an optional feature. The development stage of the project will be funded by a non-recurring engineering (NRE) charge from our partner.
There is a compelling argument for including iris recognition technology in cars because of upcoming regulatory requirements for Driver Monitoring (DMS), which uses infrared cameras to detect the state of the driver. Without installing any further hardware, the authentication software for Fingerprints can be used to capture a photo of the iris of the eye using the same infrared camera that is used in the DMS.
Automotive companies are becoming more and more interested in the advantages of biometrics, such as how it can authenticate payments made through in-car systems and enable other cutting-edge features like driver personalization and preventing the vehicle from starting until the driver has been successfully authenticated.
“Over the past year, our technical team has managed to implement significant improvements to our iris authentication asset, both in terms of performance and convenience. This means that our system now performs well even with low-resolution infrared cameras in noisy environments, and with a significantly larger field of view than before. I am thrilled about the opportunities in the automotive space, as we anticipate a significant deployment of affordable infrared cameras in cars, driven by legal requirements,” commented Thomas Rex, Executive Vice President New Business.
