
5G Smartphones Sale Exceeds 50% Mark

The report claimed that while Samsung helped boost the reach of the 5G devices across the country, OnePlus which turned out to be the “real winner”. "Samsung helped 5G get across the line, but OnePlus was the real winner. Huge month for them as they punched above their weight, capturing a third of all 5G sales," said senior research analyst Shilpi Jain.
Contribution from 5G smartphones was 43% in the first quarter.
Despite India's smartphone shipments declining 19% YoY in the first quarter of 2023 (Q1-2023), the market research firm noted that the period saw an increased contribution of 5G devices.
"The quarter’s silver lining came from 5G smartphones, whose contribution (43%) crossed 40% for the first time, registering 23% YoY growth as consumers kept upgrading to 5G devices," the report said.
In Q1-20223, Samsung had a 24% market share in India and was the leading 5G brand. The South Korean business also held the top spot for 5G shipments for the previous two quarters. While Samsung's 5G-capable A series did well in the offline market, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G was the device with the most sales in Q1-2023.
