Apple's Make in India plans get USD 150 million boost

For building manufacturing facilities in India, Pegatron has given approval for an initial investment of USD 150 million. By the second half of next year, or in the early 2022, Pegatron’s factory is expected to start its production.  If we talk about Pegatron, Apple’s second largest contract manufacturer.

CEO Liao Syh-jang has also said that they are looking forward to making more investments in India over a period of next two years.

Along with two Apple suppliers - Foxconn and Wistron - Pegatron has been cleared to avail sops under the central government’s production-linked incentive scheme. Speaking of the company, despite the times of pandemic, Apple has been having among its strongest years in recent times.  With close to 700,000 units, Apple recorded the highest ever quarterly shipments.

“Targets are easily achievable if they are able to start production next year but if it is stretched till 2022, they will have to convey this to the government and reach a middle ground, I think,” a senior executive in a mobile manufacturing firm said.
