Caller identification software Truecaller has launched a new feature called Truecaller Assistant, which employs artificial intelligence to answer calls on the user's behalf.

This virtual assistant can communicate in Hindi, English, and an Indianized language known as 'Hinglish.' Consider it an interactive answering machine for smartphones. The assistant and call forwarding must be configured by the user. The user can view a live transcript of the conversation on the app while the assistant is on the phone.

Truecaller Assistant was originally released as Call Hero by the same company, which Truecaller later acquired. Truecaller has integrated Call Hero's functionality, which is now known as Truecaller Assistant. It was first released in the United States, where Call Hero already had a presence, and has since been rolled out in other markets.

The goal of this feature is to make answering suspected spam calls less of a hassle. Users can take control of the call at any time if it is critical or if they want to personally answer it. Truecaller Assistant is currently available on Android in India and will be available on the iOS ecosystem in the coming months. It will also support more languages.

Truecaller Assistant, unlike Truecaller's other caller identity and verification solutions, is entirely cloud-based and does not require collaboration with Indian telcos. Each market's cloud infrastructure is tailored to meet local regulations.

Truecaller's largest market is India, with 255.4 million monthly active users out of a total of 355.6 million in the April-June quarter. It also accounts for the most revenue for the company, accounting for SEK 412.9 million (Rs 321 crore) or 79.6% of total revenue. In India, Truecaller generates revenue through app advertising, premium subscriptions, and its enterprise service, Truecaller for Business.
