Teachers have been enticing students to join their classes off of the platform by promoting their sessions on YouTube for years. In addition to offering new opportunities for creators to monetize their work, YouTube said it is taking broader measures to improve the video service's attractiveness to schools and students.
Google launched Courses, a product that aims to provide an organised learning experience to YouTube, at its yearly conference in India.
In addition to publishing and organising their videos, teachers will be able to offer text reading assignments and quizzes directly within the video app. The company stated that they will be able to give the content for free or for a price.
The programme will include both academic and professional interests, according to the company. The videos can be viewed without advertisements if the viewer purchases a Course.
According to the firm, the functionality will "soon" become available to users in India and offer "additional revenue options for our authors."
The action taken by Google on Monday shows how determined it is to gain ground in India's education market, where over 300 million pupils attend schools. In recent years, substantial investments have also been made in the area by Meta and Amazon.
