As part of its continued foray into the field of new technology, Meta Platforms announced that it would make available an artificial intelligence (AI) model intended to help with developing computer code. The social media juggernaut stated in a blog post that Code Llama, which will be free, can produce code based on human text prompts and can also be used for code completion and debugging.

Enterprises and businesses have flocked to the emerging generative AI industry for fresh capabilities and streamlining business processes since the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT late last year. This year, Facebook and Instagram owner Meta launched a flurry of AI models, the majority of which were free. One of these models, named Llama, is an open-source language model that seriously competes with the proprietary models offered by Google and OpenAI, which are supported by Microsoft.

The company said the new AI model would be offered in several configurations and is based on Meta's most recent Llama 2 language model as it prepares to compete with Microsoft's GitHub Copilot code-writing tool. According to Meta, Code Llama is only supported by well-known programming languages like Python, Java, and C++ and is not suggested for general text-based jobs.

The American international technological corporation Meta Platforms, Inc., also known as Meta and formerly known as Facebook, Inc. and TheFacebook, Inc., is based in Menlo Park, California. The business, among other products and services, owns and runs Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp.
