At the end of June, the nation's telecom subscriber base increased slightly to 1,173.89 million thanks to new user additions spearheaded by Reliance Jio, according to industry regulator Trai. Mobile telephony, where Reliance Jio acquired over 2.27 million new users and Bharti Airtel added 1.4 million consumers, was the primary driver of subscriber base increase.

"The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,172.57 million at the end of May-23 to 1,173.89 million at the end of June-23, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.11 per cent," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in its monthly subscriber report.

However, the state-owned BSNL, MTNL, and Vodafone Idea (VIL) lost users, which restrained overall development. 1.87 million mobile users were lost by BSNL, 1.28 million by VIL, and 1,52,912 by MTNL. In the month of June, telecom operators' wireless subscribers increased by a net 3,73,602 units. "Total wireless subscribers increased from 1,143.21 million at the end of May-23, to 1,143.58 million at the end of June-23, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.03 per cent," Trai said.

After a little decline in May, the number of wireline connections increased in June. With the addition of 6,56,424 new connections, APFPL dominated the wireline segment growth. In June, Reliance Jio added 2,08,014 new connections, followed by Tata Teleservices (12,617), Bharti Airtel (1,34,021), V-Con Mobile and Infra (13,100), and Quadrant (6,540).

According to research, there will be 861.47 million broadband users worldwide at the end of June 2023, up from 856.81 million at the end of May. This represents a monthly growth rate of 0.54 percent.
