UIDAI-Starlink Partner for Aadhaar-Based Customer Verification

Elon Musk’s satellite broadband venture, Starlink, will use Aadhaar authentication for customer verification before onboarding subscribers in India. The move follows the government’s formal approval for the company to begin offering satellite-based internet services in the country.

In an official statement, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) confirmed that Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd has been on boarded as a service provider authorized to use Aadhaar-based authentication. This step will streamline customer verification, making the process faster, more secure, and user-friendly.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded satellite-based internet provider Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd. Starlink will use Aadhaar Authentication for customer verification, which will make the entire process smooth, secure, and very easy,” the statement said.

According to government estimates, Starlink currently can onboard nearly 20 lakh customers across India. The adoption of Aadhaar authentication is expected to ensure regulatory compliance while enabling users to access high-speed internet efficiently.

Highlighting the importance of this collaboration, the statement added: “Starlink’s onboarding with Aadhaar authentication signifies a powerful synergy: India’s trusted digital identity joining hands with global satellite technology. Aadhaar e-KYC will facilitate the onboarding of users seamlessly, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while delivering high-speed internet to households, businesses, and institutions.”

To strengthen its distribution network in India, Starlink has also entered into partnerships with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, aiming to expand its satellite internet services to both urban and rural markets.

With India’s growing digital infrastructure needs, this collaboration between Aadhaar and Starlink is being seen as a significant step toward bridging connectivity gaps across the nation.
