The Indian government plans to launch the "India AI Summit" on January 10, 2024, to focus on artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence chips, large language models (LLM), etc. said Rajeev Chandrasekhar (MeitY), Minister for Power and Information Technology.

Chandrasekhar addressed a heated discussion at the Bengaluru Technology Summit on November 20, 2023. Answering questions about the future of the technology industry, the minister outlined plans for the January conference, which will be "structured along the SEMICON India structure."

“We will focus on talent, we will focus on AI compute, we will focus on AI chips, we are focused on the models, the LLMs and the foundational models,” said Chandrasekhar.

Talking about the Indian government's vision for AI, the minister said that AI is "very important" for the government as it has the potential to act as a "co-operator" enumerating the  various aspects of AI, Chandrasekhar said that  if used correctly, AI can revolutionize healthcare, agriculture, governance,  translation and language integration.

Therefore, the aforementioned Forum seeks to build these datasets, AI software and training capabilities. Minister MeitY also said that security and trust barriers are needed for AI to ensure that the technology is not misused or used by malicious actors to do harm.

Elaborating on the nature of these barriers, Chandrasekhar said, “We prefer to use the words safe and secure. Responsibilities are interpreted individually.  I think responsibility may not be what you think of as responsibility, but safety and trust are the true definition of trust.”
