Meta is planning to develop a new artificial intelligence (AI) model that will be as powerful as OpenAI's latest chatbot GPT-4. Meta is purchasing additional Nvidia H100 AI-training chips and expanding its infrastructure to train the new chatbot. According to reports, the business intends to begin training the next large language model in early 2024.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is likely to offer creating AI tools free for companies and researchers at first. Meta has established a team to create the new AI model, with the goal of accelerating the development of AI tools that can mimic human expressions. The company debuted its own AI tool, Code Llama, this month to produce new code and debug human-written work. Text prompts can be used by the large language model (LLM) to produce and discuss code.

“Code Llama is state-of-the-art for publicly available LLMs on coding tasks. It has the potential to make workflows faster and more efficient for developers and lower the barrier to entry for people who are learning to code,” Meta had said in a statement.

Code Llama has the potential to be utilized as a productivity and educational tool to assist programmers in creating more robust and well-documented software. Code Llama is a code-specific variant of Llama 2 that was built by further training Llama 2 on its code-specific datasets and sampling more data from the same dataset for a longer period of time.

Zuckerberg stated in February that the business was forming a new "top-level" product team that will be "focused" on generative artificial intelligence (AI).
